Life Works is a private, behavioural health facility leading the way in advanced, evidence-based treatment of behavioural health issues, including addictions to alcohol, illegal drugs and prescription medication, eating disorders, anxiety and depression and compulsive behaviours including sex and love addiction, gambling addiction and codependency. We are specialists in providing quality residential and extended care treatment services and were awarded a 3 stars "Excellent" rating by the industry regulator, the Care Quality Commission.
At Life Works, we have created an Extended Care Programme designed for women who have completed a primary residential treatment programme and now require longer-term care to support their transition into healthy, everyday life in recovery.
Nestled in the grounds of The Grange, our Grade II listed residential facility in Surrey, our beautiful Cottage provides a safe, relaxing and healing space in which women can continue building on the recovery foundations developed in primary treatment.
The Life Works Extended Care Programme for Women supports clients to equip themselves with the skills, support and confidence needed to make the transition from primary treatment to everyday life in recovery.
All prospective clients on The Life Works Extended Care Programme for Women receive a comprehensive medical, psychiatric and psychological assessment to determine the particular issues they are now facing, their individual treatment needs and their suitability for treatment at Life Works. This ensures that each of our clients receives a comprehensive yet individualised treatment programme.
Life Works Extended Care Programme for Women allows clients to begin working through the issues underlying their illness and to build a strong support network within the wider recovery community and the 12-Step Fellowship. Life Works Extended Care Programme for Women includes a unique combination of treatment methods, providing clients with the opportunity to develop valuable life skills and experiences for coping with everyday life in recovery. These range from meal planning, food shopping, cooking, local voluntary work or employment, through to relapse prevention planning, psycho-educational lectures, meditation, gentle exercise, shiatsu and weekly attendance at 12-Step Fellowship meetings.
For clients with eating disorders, Life Works Extended Care Programme for Women supports individuals to continue progression through the Life Works Level Systemâ„¢. This 5-level programme supports the person to progressively take more and more responsibility for their food and nutritional needs. Level 1 involves assessment, stabilisation and maximum support from staff and peers, and Level 5 is where a client has progressed to taking full responsibility for their food and nutritional needs. Clients entering the Life Works Extended Care Programme for Women would need to have reached Level 3 and stabilised there for at least a week, and can expect to be confidently and consistently at Level 5 before ending the programme. At all stages they are well supported by staff, including clinicians, nurses, programme assistants and catering. Each week, the client's progress is reviewed against agreed goals and their progress to the next level is decided.
Life Works Extended Care Programme for Women is open to women aged 17 and over who have undertaken residential treatment, either at Life Works or somewhere else. All clients on Life Works Extended Care Programme for Women receive a comprehensive medical, psychiatric and psychological assessment, to determine the particular issues they are facing, their individual treatment needs and their suitability for treatment at Life Works. For clients with eating disorders, this also enables assessment of their current status within the Life Works Levels SystemTM. This ensures that each of our clients receives a comprehensive yet individualised treatment programme.
At Life Works, we know that the factors underlying behavioural health issues are often different for women and also affect their recovery support needs. For many women dealing with behavioural health issues, their eating disorder, compulsive or addictive behaviours have become entrenched over a number of years and therefore require sufficient time for new, healthier behaviours and lifestyle changes to become integrated into their daily lives. Additionally, we understand the complex issues that women face in recovery and the dramatic impact that it has on not only the individual but also their friends and family.
The Life Works Extended Care Programme therefore focuses on the unique needs of women in recovery and provides a safe haven for them to develop the skills and support they will need to sustain healthy, long-term recovery.
Our wealth of experience in treating behavioural health issues has consistently demonstrated that the longer a client remains in a safe, structured recovery-focused environment, the better the chance they have for sustained, healthy, long-term recovery.
Life Works Extended Care programme for Women is a minimum of 90 days, however, the duration of the programme varies for each person, depending on assessment of their individual treatment needs. For most of our clients, the average length of stay is four to six months, dependent on individual progress.
Life Works believes that extended care offers women the greatest chance of long-term recovery enabling them to achieve a healthy, sustained and positive recovery.
It is this belief and our knowledge and expertise of behavioural health issues that has allowed us to create a unique and high quality safe haven for women. We provide an environment with integrity, compassion and confidentiality, enabling women to feel safe enough to reveal their truths (sometimes for the very first time) about who they really are, what happened to them and what they hope for the future.
We aim to ensure that our clients emerge from treatment with a newfound sense of confidence and peace, and most importantly, a platform for continued healing and lasting recovery.
At Life Works, we regard behavioural health issues as affecting the 'whole person' and effective treatment therefore needs to support healing on all levels, psychologically, behaviourally, somatically, socially and developmentally.
At Life Works we have a highly trained multi-disciplinary team of dedicated professionals ensuring that we offer the highest level of care to all our clients. The team is made up of psychiatric consultants, psychologists, psychotherapists, physicians, specialist nurses, dieticians, support staff and complimentary therapists to ensure we offer comprehensive and individualised treatment. Our staff understand the life-challenges and issues women can face in recovery and the programme is designed to provide care that is personal and individualised.
