O.C.D I Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

The key features of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder are obsessions (persistent, often irrational, and seemingly uncontrollable thoughts) and compulsions (actions which are used to neutralise the obsessions and reduce the associated anxiety). Commonly seen behaviours might be cleaning or washing in response to concerns about contamination and illness, or repeated checking of a cooker in response to concerns over a fire starting. For such behaviours to constitute OCD, they must be disruptive to everyday functioning (e.g. being continually late for appointments due to compulsive checking before leaving the house, washing to the point of skin irritation or bleeding, or an inability to perform everyday functions like work or school because of the obsessions or compulsions).

Obsessional Thinking

Obsessive thinking is where recurrent thoughts, impulses or images intrude on your consciousness. This is not an ordinary worry over a current problem, but a disturbing, unwelcome train of thought that is excessive, persistent and time-consuming. These thoughts can significantly interfere with everyday functioning and the normal routine of work, education, family life.
