Life Works now offers individual CBT for people suffering from a wide range of Mood Disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, low self-esteem and stress-related disorders.
CBT is a problem-focused and time-limited psychological treatment method that has proven its efficiency in numerous studies. The basic principle of CBT is that the way we think affects how we feel and behave. By identifying negative and dysfunctional patterns of thinking and interpreting, we can begin to challenge and in time change these ways into more constructive and healthy patterns. For example, a person suffering from an anxiety disorder will probably overestimate danger and underestimate his or her own ability to cope with the feared situation. By testing out these beliefs systematically and looking at their counters, the person will gradually be able to modify them and experience that the feared situation is not as dangerous and that he or she has more resources to tackle it with than previously assumed.
The number of treatment sessions can be adjusted to the individual client's needs and wishes. It will be possible to arrange a more intensive treatment course which will focus on one particular and defined problem and consist of 2-3 sessions per week over two or three weeks. A more extensive treatment course with 1-2 sessions per week for up to three months is another option.
