When people think of eating disorders, they tend to think of two things. While they think of those who have
anorexia and those who have
bulimia, they tend to forget about all of the different eating disorders that exist. It is important to understand the wide range of eating disorders, as many eating disorders may go undetected.
What is an Eating Disorder?
An eating disorder is a disorder that revolves around food. For some people, this eating disorder surrounds around not eating enough food. Other types of eating disorders surround around eating too much food. Still other types of eating disorders surround around people who eat food, but do not hold it down, or find ways to make sure that it does not stay in their body. These eating disorders are completely psychological, but are very unhealthy.
Long Term Effects of Eating Disorders
Eating disorders can have incredible long term effects, both during and after the actual eating disorder. Some of the long term effects for eating disorders deal with the body; those who have these issues will find that their bodies are still affected after they get over their issue. The body image issues that come from eating disorders will stay. Those who have eating disorders will also have many issues with the state of their body; they can have immune, heart, and other problems long after, and can also have trouble gaining weight.
The other long term effects of eating disorders happen in the mind. Those who have eating disorders have relationships with food that they are attempting to break. These relationships can be through eating too much food, or not eating enough. Those who have eating disorders must also deal with getting used to a normal diet, as many will purge or use other ways to get rid of the food from their system.

Different Eating Disorders
There are multiple types of eating disorders that someone can suffer from.
Anorexia, which is one of the most well known eating disorders, is an eating disorder where people do not eat enough food, which makes them lose drastic amounts of weight.
Bulimia, also a well known eating disorder, is a disorder where people eat and purge their food after they eat. There are other forms of eating disorders, however, including binging and overeating. Binging is an eating disorder where someone will binge on food for a short period of time (eating more than usual), and then purging it afterward. Overeating is an eating disorder where people use eating as a crutch; they use eating as an emotional tool, and overeat because of it.
Food Disorders (Binge Eating, Diuretics, Weight Loss)
Signs of Food Disorders
There are multiple signs to look for when it comes to food disorders. The symptoms for each disorder can be different, but there are a lot of similarities. One of the major things to look for when trying to find signs of a food disorder is weight. If there is sudden severe weight gain, or sudden severe weight loss, it could be a sign of an eating disorder. All of the eating disorders revolve around severe differences, so any gained or lost weight could be a sign. Another major sign to look for when looking for eating disorders is the “hidden eating”. Many different eating disorders will revolve around people who either do not eat, or do not want to eat in front of people., or do not want to show binge eating in front of other people. If someone is dodging eating in front of a group, they may not be eating, or they may simply be hiding the food that they will later binge on. Another sign of a food disorder is a loss of self esteem and a low body image. While this is normal for many people, any thoughts like these mixed with questionable eating practices could be a red flag for a food disorder. Finally, any type of medication such as a diuretic that is being used as a weight loss tool could be a sign of a food disorder. Diuretics and laxatives can be an incredibly dangerous and yet discreet way to go about an eating disorder.
Psychological Effects of Food Disorders
Food disorders can have serious psychological effects, and in different ways. Those who suffer from anorexia and bulimia have serious body image issues. These body image issues cause them to attempt to lose weight. Those who have binging disorders and overeating disorders have those body image issues, but also have a psychological connection with food. This psychological connection with food is rooted deeply in their minds; to fix these eating disorders, it is important to dig deeper to understand the psychological reason for the eating disorder.
Treatment for Food Disorders
Food disorders must be treated in a special and careful way. Anyone who is suffering from an eating disorder has something, mentally, that is keeping the disorder around. If you want to make sure that you can break the disorder completely, you must get to the root of the problem, which is the main goal of Lifeworks. If you have knowledge of the inner workings of the mind and the possible emotional trigger for the eating disorder, you can know exactly how to change that to make the eating disorder disappear.
After you have driven down to the core of the issue, you can find the perfect way to find the treatment that is right for you. Some people will be better off with a more solo, private type effort. This effort allows you to have you personalized program, but does so on a one on one basis. All of the staff of the facility will help you with your stages of treatment, but without the normal group setting that is expected. There are some who will thrive in this group setting, however, which is why it is offered. The group setting is still tailored to each individual, but much of it is done with others, as some find support with those who are struggling with the same disorders that they are.
