Relapse Prevention | Relapse

The risk of relapse is present in all addictive and mental health disorders. An essential part of effective treatment is relapse prevention, which commences almost immediately.

All unhealthy behaviours have several things in common: they increase in frequency and severity under stress, they may initially distract from pain or extreme discomfort but then exacerbate the very things they're meant to alleviate and they tend to become more entrenched and extreme over time.

In order to recognize the warning signs of potential relapse, it is necessary to identify internal and external risk factors in your life and develop a healthy and sustainable plan for managing these consistently and well.

A continuum of care is often the strongest safety net that you can build for the first several years of recovery. This includes support that will be easily available any time of day or evening, is very accessible and meets your specific needs.

We know that addiction is an illness that affects us in our entirety, that is, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Relapse Prevention encompasses all of these aspects.

We utilise the Gorski model of relapse prevention at Life Works and we have found that this highly effective approach is successful for managing the post treatment phase of recovery from all of the addictions and disorders which we treat here at Life Works.
