For many people with addictive disorders one of the major barriers to seeking treatment is the commitment of time and the impact on work and family life which conventional day or residential can represent.
Our eight-week programme at our London treatment facility aims to remedy this by providing an effective and convenient treatment framework. With three evenings and an individual counselling session per week, the programme is designed to provide primary and extended care treatment for a whole range of addictive disorders. These include: alcohol and drug addictions, co-dependency, eating disorders, compulsive behaviours and depression and anxiety.
Our approach is an abstinence-based 12-Step programme, which has been modified to also address underlying trauma, family and other unresolved issues. Here at Life Works we believe that addictive disorders affect your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual wellbeing, so we employ a multi-disciplinary staff team who take a holistic approach to our clients’ needs.
Within the structured group programme, each client has an individual treatment plan. While the material presented in the workshops will of course differ according to the requirements of the particular client group, the topics generally covered will include:
The Addictive System, Managing Cravings, Recognising and Managing Feelings (including Anxiety Management & Anger Management), Relapse Prevention, Stages of Recovery, Steps One, Two & Three, Co-dependency – Core Symptoms, and ‘Family of Origin’ Dynamics .
The evening sessions run on Mondays, Wednesday and Thursdays from 6pm until 9pm and consist of a structured workshop (either a psycho-educational, problem-solving or assignment group) followed by a therapy group. There is a short dinner break between the two sessions. Clients are invited to weekly ‘family’ sessions. We also work closely with referrers, employers and family members to ensure that the client receives optimal levels of support outside the programme.
Our clients will have assignments to complete between sessions and present in group, and will also be expected to attend appropriate 12 Step meetings. Upon completion of the programme, clients are invited to attend a full year of weekly continuing care sessions to provide ongoing support.
