Nutritional Support

Nutrition is an important part of our philosophy and fundamental to each person's recovery. Many clients entering treatment at Life Works have struggled to take care of themselves and often do not have healthy eating habits. Teaching our clients to eat well is an important way in which they can learn how to take care of themselves. Additionally, individuals have the opportunity to experience and enjoy the flavours of natural foods, free from artificial sweeteners or flavouring. At Life Works, we serve our clients delicious and nutritionally-balanced meals, three times a day. We continually strive to deliver a menu that reflects the latest understanding and guidelines for healthy eating and nutrition. All our meals are based on the British Dietetic Association's recommendations for best practice. For more information, please see the British Dietetic Association website.

Where possible, we limit the amount of white flour and sugar in the food we serve our clients. While these foods can be triggers for some clients, not all individuals with eating disorders need to avoid sugar. White flour and sugar are therefore included in some of our foods and desserts. Our dedicated dietician works closely with individuals to evaluate whether abstinence from sugar should be included their treatment plan.

We aim to support each client in eating regular, healthy and nutritional meals, particularly eating disorder clients, so that food and one's relationship with food can be explored and trusted as a necessary component of health and quality of life. Where appropriate, our dedicated dietician will work with clients to assess individual needs and provide a personalized meal plan tailored to the individual's specific treatment goals.

Additionally, eating healthy, nutritious meals with a low GI ensures that brain cells and muscles in the body have the nourishment they need to function properly. This leads to increased, sustainable energy levels and helps to minimize tiredness, mood swings and irritability. We feel that this gives our clients the best chance to feel healthy, energized and well, and ultimately, this provides a strong foundation for sustainable recovery.

Special Dietary Requirements

At Life Works, we provide treatment to individuals from many different cultural backgrounds and, in conjunction with our dedicated dietician, our menu can be tailored to incorporate the specific dietary needs of our clients, for example, vegetarian, vegan, Kosher and Halal food.

See why choosing Life Works is the first step in getting the right treatment for you.
