You are not alone

You are not the first person who has needed help with an addiction to alcohol.

You will also not be the first person to receive successful treatment from our alcohol addiction rehabilitation facilities in The Grange. Hundreds of men and women who have called us have faced the same struggle, pain and suffering that you are experiencing right now.

As many as 2 million people in the UK suffer from behavioural health issues and many more are affected because they care about a person who is in need of addiction treatment. There are also many people who are living incredible lives in recovery after seeking residential treatment at a facility like Life Works.

How to start your recovery at Life Works

By calling us on 0800 081 0700 you will be making a big step towards your recovery and regaining the life that you deserve. The process will also be less daunting and mysterious than you may think. When you call, you will speak with our admissions counsellor who will discuss your situation and the issues that you are facing right now. Our staff will be able to help you in a completely non-judgmental and confidential manner.

We will ask you a number of questions that will help to assess your needs, in order to recommend the most appropriate treatment for you - whether that is residential or outpatient treatment, or one-to-one therapy or onward referral to specialised services if we are not the appropriate service. Our counsellor will also be able to address any concerns or queries you may have around treatment.

This service is completely discreet and anything that you share with us will be in total confidence.

What happens next?

The next step is for you to complete a pre-screening assessment. We can do this with you over the phone or you can come to Life Works and meet with one of our counsellors in person. During the pre-screening assessment, we will discuss in more detail the issues that you feel you need support with and the best treatment options for you.

When you come to Life Works for alcohol addiction rehabilitation, you can expect to be treated with respect, understanding and compassion. We will only admit you if we truly believe that we can offer the best treatment for you. If we feel that we are not best placed to help you, we will suggest other treatment options. Ensuring that we offer the best possible care for each individual is paramount to us.

If we feel that we can offer the best treatment for you, and you wish to come in for treatment we will arrange for you to come in for a comprehensive assessment covering key medical, psychiatric and psychological issues with one of our dedicated primary counsellors.

Throughout your treatment at Life Works, you will be under the care of one of our dedicated psychiatrists, general practitioners (GP), counsellors and dietician (where appropriate), and you will be thoroughly assessed by each of these professionals.

How will treatment help me?

Our intensive alcohol addiction rehabilitation programme starts by ensuring that you are safe medically and that your detoxification process is as comfortable and supportive as possible. Once you are able to engage with treatment, you will receive assistance in looking at the underlying causes of your drinking, coming to terms with your problem with alcohol and starting to create healthy strategies for coping once you leave treatment. We believe that this approach vastly increases your chances of sustained recovery and improved quality of life.

Our holistic programme supports you to re-connect with your self, with others and with the larger community. It is through these relationships that you can find insight, understanding and support in relation to your drinking. In this way, the community serves as a safe and healing place in which your recovery begins, leading to a significant change in lifestyle.

Without this holistic approach, we believe that individuals with a drinking problem are more likely to relapse, develop other disorders, and have a much poorer quality of life.

What will happen when I admit for treatment at Life Works?

When you enter treatment at Life Works, you will be met by our admissions team who will welcome you and answer any last minute questions you may have.

You will then be introduced to the nursing team who will undertake an initial medical risk assessment of you. It is at this point that you can advise us of any medications you are currently taking including the name of the medication, the dosage and frequency administered, as well as the name of the physician who prescribed the medication.

In order that you come prepared and know what to expect, we have compiled the following information booklet that will help you in planning your stay with Life Works. Download PDF.

Once the medical assessment is completed, we will then introduce you to your primary counsellor who will work with you personally throughout your stay with us.

We will also assign a ‘buddy’ to you. Your buddy will show you where things are and help you settle into Life Works.

How can I pay for my treatment?

Most of our clients who receive treatment at Life Works are either covered by private medical insurance (PMI) or are self-funded. If you have private medical insurance, you will need to check whether your policy will cover your treatment at Life Works. If you are unsure, please contact your insurance company and they will be able to advise you.

We are able to work with you in contacting your insurance company to ensure that you get the necessary authorisations so that the claim is met. For most PMI submissions, you are required to have a consultation with one of our dedicated consultant psychiatrists, to determine your suitability for treatment at Life Works. We are able to arrange all this for you.

The main component of our programme is group therapy. There are usually one or two groups in the morning and one lecture in the afternoon. Our groups provide a safe space to explore the issues which people in treatment typically face in their lives, and are coupled with educational lectures about the nature of problems with alcohol and related topics. Our treatment programme is designed to help you stand back and look objectively at the difficulties that you have been facing and to help you to find your own solutions. You will also have a one-to-one therapy session with your primary counsellor each week. As part of our balanced treatment programme at Life Works, weekend activities are slower paced. This is intentional and allows you valuable time for reflection and rest.

Our aim is for The Grange to be a calm, safe, and supportive atmosphere in which you can do this work. On average, there are between 8-16 people in primary treatment, aged 17 and over, and the actual numbers fluctuate throughout the year. You will be in treatment with others also facing a range of addictive, eating, anxiety and depressive disorders, and related behavioural health issues. Our experience has taught us that beneath these problems, many of our clients are struggling with similar underlying issues and often find similar solutions. Most people find the thought of discussing their life experience with strangers in a group setting very intimidating. We understand this and will ensure you are given enough time to get to know your peers and hear their experiences. This will allow you to feel safe to open up, in your own time.
