Eating disorders are hard enough to manage in normal circumstances but Christmas can intensify stress from food and family while adding alcohol and expectations. Anyone with an ED should remember a few key tips to help them survive the holidays. Some of the more important things are to avoid alcohol when possible. Alcohol is a dis-inhibitor which means it can lead to negative behaviours and make it hard to remain vigilant. Remember that, while other people may decide to eat huge amounts of food, you can stick to appropriate portion sizes. Finally remember that family and alcohol can, at times, produce some thoughtless comments. Understand that this may happen and have a plan in place for if it does.
