An obsession may be an unwanted and unpleasant thought, image or urge that repeatedly enters their mind. This can and frequently does lead to feelings of anxiety, disgust or unease. A compulsion is a repetitive behaviour or mental act that someone feels they need to carry out in order to temporarily relieve the unpleasant feelings brought on by the obsessive thought.

Eating disorders in adultsThe Mail Online today featured a report from the Renfrew Centre, New Jersey, of an alarming rise in the number of middle-aged women seeking eating disorder treatment. Douglas Bunnell, vice president and director of out-patient clinical services at the Renfrew Centre, echo our experience at Life Works, that eating disorders rarely show up out of the blue in mid-life, but are more likely a resurgence of a life-long issue.
