The Towns With The Worst Drunk Driving Problems In The UK

Drunk drivingPrice comparison website, MoneySuperMarket has analysed 11 million insurance applications and revealed the UK towns with the highest proportion of motorists with drink or drug-driving convictions in 2015.

With a rate of 1.74 convictions per 1,000 drivers, the Cheshire town of Crewe has topped the list. Encouragingly, this figure is 12% lower than last year’s highest figure of 1.98 convictions in Llandrindod Wells in Wales.

Insurance expert from MoneySuperMarket, Kevin Pratt commented:

“This year could be a breakthrough. We’ve seen the highest rate of convictions tumble from just under two per thousand to 1.74 per thousand. That’s a significant decline and perhaps indicates that the ‘Don’t Drink & Drive’ message is finally getting through.”

The top 10 areas in the UK for drink-driving in the UK are as follows:

1) Crewe
2) Llandrindod Wells
3) Cardiff
4) Newport
5) Swansea
6) Aberdeen
7) Blackpool
8) Darlington
9) Telford
10) Plymouth

Although the highest figure for drink-driving convictions has dropped from last year, experts are still warning that it is a problem in the UK and with Christmas coming up, these figures are likely to increase.

Mark Hanson, Marketing Director from insurance providers, RIAS commented:

“Despite extensive campaigns from the government and other organisations highlighting the dangers of drink driving, there are a large number of people still prepared to take the risk. Drivers of all ages are taking a risk every time they drink and then get behind the wheel of their car.”
