What to expect as a Life Works client

I need support for a mental health problem. What’s the next step?

When you have acknowledged your mental health difficulties and made the decision to seek help, at Life Works, we aim to ensure that the process of receiving timely support is as smooth and accessible as possible.

The first step that you may wish to take is to speak to your GP about your mental health concerns. Your GP will then be able to advise you as to what your symptoms may be indicative of, and can facilitate an onward referral to receive specialist treatment at Life Works, if this is required.

Alternatively, you may wish to contact Life Works directly yourself. Our dedicated admissions team will be able to provide comprehensive information on accessing treatment as well as funding options. The next step following a conversation with our admissions team, is to receive a free initial assessment with one of our expert consultants, which can take place either over the telephone or face-to-face. Once you have completed your initial assessment, you will be able to commence with admission and treatment, if Life Works is deemed as being the best place for you to address your mental health condition. We are also able to support weekend admissions if required, in order to guarantee the utmost flexibility and convenience for our clients.

We are committed to ensuring that our assessment and admissions process is seamless and transparent. As such, if you require any further information or wish to take the first steps to accessing world class treatment, you can email or call us on 0808 159 5664 and our highly trained, compassionate team will be able to guide you through the process and answer any initial questions that you may have.

In addition to the above, our dedicated admissions manager at Life Works, Isabelle Wood, is available to provide prompt advice in response to any of your queries. Get in touch today:

What does treatment look like at Life Works?

Residential treatment

The majority of treatment at Life Works takes place on a residential basis, which consists of clients staying at our beautiful Grade II listed Georgian manor house for a set amount of time, in order to undergo intensive treatment. Residential treatment can be quite a daunting prospect, but in our extensive experience at Life Works, it truly does have a profound impact on an individual’s life and wellbeing. It provides the time, care and attention that are required to fully address emotional, mental and physical issues.

Outpatient treatment

For clients who have received comprehensive residential treatment at Life Works, we are able to offer a step-down in treatment intensity in the form of our very popular day care programme. Day care consists of clients attending Life Works for a set number of days each week and participating in all therapeutic activities alongside current residential clients. Day care clients do not stay at Life Works overnight, but return to their own place of residence following a day of therapy.

Aftercare support

We are also able to provide a 12-month aftercare programme for clients who have completed a residential stay at Life Works. This enables clients to consolidate the skills learned during treatment and provides them with the support that they need when they leave Life Works. Our weekly aftercare groups are free of charge and take place every Monday evening between 6:30-8:00pm in central London.

At Life Works, we are able to deliver a range of treatment and therapy approaches to our clients. These include:

  • Group psychotherapy
  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Arts-based psychotherapy groups
  • Complementary therapies
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT)
  • Family programme
  • Medication
  • Meditation
  • Nutrition support
  • Psycho-educational workshops
  • Spirituality
  • Trauma stabilisation
  • 12-Steps work

Certain treatment approaches and therapies have been found to be effective in treating certain mental health issues. Therefore, the treatment approach that is most appropriate to suit your individual needs will be discussed in conjunction with our Life Works experts, and used to formulate your bespoke treatment plan.

You can access more information on the different types of therapy and treatment approaches that we offer, on our approaches to treatment page.
