What is inpatient (residential) treatment?

Inpatient treatment consists of clients staying at Life Works in Surrey on a residential basis to undergo intensive therapy & treatment for their addiction or eating disorder. Treatment for addictions is delivered as part of our 28-day Addiction Treatment Programme, and eating disorder treatment typically lasts for between 28 and 42 days, although this can be longer if needed.

At Life Works, we understand that at first, residential treatment can seem to be an overwhelming and daunting prospect, but it can have a truly remarkable impact on an individual’s life. It provides the time, care and attention that is needed to fully address your mental, emotional and physical issues.

Who would benefit from residential care at Life Works?

Residential care is appropriate for clients who need a structured or intense treatment plan. It is also suitable for clients who need to be stabilised or require detoxification, or who need to be away from their everyday living situation which may be contributing to their addiction or eating disorder.

Our unique treatment approach provides our clients with a wide range of opportunities to re-engage with themselves physically, emotionally and spiritually, and to develop healthier coping strategies. Together, these experiences support healthy, sustained, long-term recovery for our clients.

Inpatient treatment at Life Works

The therapy that you will receive during inpatient treatment is tailored to your individual needs and structured within National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines. The format of therapy will usually be a combination of one-to-one and group therapy, and we are also able to offer a wide variety of therapy types during inpatient treatment, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) informed groups, art informed therapy and mindfulness. You can read more about these therapy types on our approach to addiction treatment and approach to eating disorder treatment pages.

During inpatient treatment at Life Works, we provide 24-hour monitoring and round the clock nursing support, ensuring that you receive constant care. As well as our specialist on-site team, we are also supported by a team of GPs at the nearby family practice located in Woking, to further assist with any physical health needs that you may have during your stay with us.

An environment that is well-suited to recovery

At Life Works, we believe that the environment in which treatment takes place is just as important as the treatment programme itself for facilitating healing and recovery, and allowing our clients to take steps towards health and wellbeing.

Life Works is set within a beautiful Georgian manor house, nestled in the tranquil Surrey countryside, and has extensive, private grounds in which our clients can relax and unwind. During inpatient treatment at Life Works, you will stay in a comfortable and beautifully decorated bedroom, complete with modern en-suite facilities, and will also benefit from spacious and welcoming living areas, providing a peaceful space for you to enjoy your leisure time.

Excellent diet and nutrition are hugely important aspects of our treatment philosophy at Life Works, and our expert nutritionist, catering team and dietitian (who offers remote sessions), are committed to providing high quality meals that are healthy, nutritious, and tailored to suit your unique dietary requirements. For our eating disorder clients, we ensure that you have a comprehensive and bespoke meal plan and offer close support both during and after meals.

Flexible treatment pathways at Life Works

After completing an intensive residential treatment programme at Life Works, clients are able to take a step-down in treatment intensity to our day care and outpatient treatment options, if this is deemed as being the best next step for you. Alternatively, inpatient treatment can be used as a step-up from day care and outpatient treatment if it transpires that more intensive help & support is required for your addiction or eating disorder.

Despite the treatment pathway that you take at Life Works, your recovery journey will be completely personalised according to your unique needs and preferences, and will be constantly reviewed and monitored by our world class team, to ensure that this is the most positive approach for you.
