Gambling advertisements are everywhere and with the rise of online gambling it is easier than ever to place a bet. Internet gambling has led to a massive increase in the amount of women who struggle with a gambling problem. Yet it appears that men and women gamble for very different reasons. 
A new study has increased our knowledge of what causes alcohol addiction and highlights potential new ways alcoholism can be treated. Researchers found that when alcohol is consumed the bain releases endorphins. While this has long been predicted, these new results reinforce what many experts suspected. 
Many people are dubious about whether a person can actually become addicted to the internet. A new study may just dispel some of these doubts. Research has found that people who claim to be addicted to the internet have similar brain patterns to those found in people struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction. 
As previously highlighted, regular exercise can be an effective treatment for those struggling with depression. Yet a new study has highlighted that the body of a depressed individual takes longer to recover from exercise. Further study is required as to why this is the case. 
Young addicts, some of the most vulnerable people in the UK, do not receive the treatment that they desperately need. The government currently sends these youths to secure units where they do not receive the therapy and support they require. The outcome is the continuation of their addiction and a much higher chance of reoffending when they are released. 
Cases of young people suffering from eating disorders are rising. Even more worrying, those who are affected seem to be younger than ever before. Experts also predict that the actual number of cases is under-reported as many young people do not realise the extent of their problem. 
A new batch of statistics released by BBC Wales indicate that despite the best efforts of the UK government more young people are being admitted to hospital for alcohol rated accidents and diseases. The study highlighted the necessary role of a child's family and advised that a new approach must be taken to increase awareness surrounding the dangers of alcohol abuse. 
A new study indicates that alongside the psychological factors that influence eating disorders there may also exist biological reasons that cause certain people to be more susceptible to these disorders. If true, this would greatly help medical professionals decide who under their care may be at a higher risk.
